warp lines

These tapestries have been woven since 2023. They mark a new direction in my work. Woven cloth has two structural elements: warp and weft. The warp are the threads attached to the loom and the weft are the colourful yarns that weave over and under the warp. In tradional tapestry, the warp is completely covered by the weft. With “Warp Lines” I am letting the warps show up on the surface of the tapestries or dictate the imagery such as the vertical elements in the first two tapestries. Most of the Warp Line tapestries were made while I held and Arts Nova Scotia Creation Grant.
